Mountain Rim Fire Safe Council is pleased to share that it has been awarded funding for 2017 - 2018 for curbside chipping through CAL FIRE's State Responsibility Area Fire Prevention Fund Fire Prevention Grant Program.
CHIPPER DAYS ARE OVER FOR 2017 - CHECK BACK NEXT SPRING FOR DATES.
START UP MONTH WILL DEPEND ON WEATHER, BUT MOSTLY WILL BE IN JUNE 2018 FOR ALL AREAS.
Have you completed your trimming and have no way to dispose of the slash or just don't want to drive all the way to the dump and wait in line?
Schedule a curbside pick up service and MRFSC will see that it is chipped and removed - at NO CHARGE!

Requests must be received by 7pm on the Sunday of the target weekend. Contractors receive direction Monday morning and chipping is scheduled to be completed within two weeks of the target weekend. Delays may occur due to weather or high volume of requests.

Funding for the chipping program is provided by the Mountain Rim Fire Safe Council thanks to a grant from CAL FIRE’s STATE RESPONSIBILITY AREA FIRE PREVENTION FUND FIRE PREVENTION GRANT PROGRAM. This following information is critical for our grant funding, to demonstrate the homeowner and community’s efforts in creating defensible space. The term of this grant is two years.
Help us demonstrate the value of this free chipping service by completing this chipping request form which provides us with documentation of community support creating defensible space. The outcomes and success of this grant will be important considerations in our applications for future grants.

Date Defensible Space was Completed - this would be the last day worked on your property to create the material you want chipped. If you fill out this form while you are still working on your property, please enter your best estimate.
Defensible Space Hours - refers to the number of hours spent creating defensible space. These hours include not only the time spent creating the piles to be chipped, but also the removal of pine needles and leaves, removing or modifying shrubs, cutting wild grasses and weeds to 4 (four) inches and so on. If more than one person worked, please include all hours. Example: if two people worked for four hours that would be a total of EIGHT (8) hours, not four. If you paid someone to do all or part of the work, do not include their hours, their time will be covered under a different question. Your best estimate is fine.
Size of Property - This is the total size of your property. Example: 100 x 60 ft., or 1/4 acre, or 1.5 acres. Your best estimate is acceptable. PLEASE NOTE: SINGLE PARCELS OVER 5 ACRES ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THIS PROGRAM. CONTACT US FOR MORE OPTIONS IF YOUR PROPERTY IS GREATER THAN 5 ACRES!!!
Did You Do the Work Yourself - this is to track the property owner's participation in creating defensible space, and the time is used for "in-kind" volunteer hours to match the dollars received in the grant. This can be you, friends, family, neighbors, etc. It is fine if you didn't personally do the work and hired someone else to trim, cut and stack for you. The amount you paid them is also considered "in-kind" and is answered in the next question.
If You Hired Someone Else for All or Part of the Work, How Much Did You Pay - enter the total amount paid, round to whole dollars.
Chip Disposition - indicate if you prefer to have the chips blown back on your property [they make excellent for erosion control and are NOT a fire hazard], or if you would like them left in a pile so you can choose where to spread them; OR if you want them hauled away. Note: If you want them blown on you property, the spread will be limited to the range of the chipper from the street.
Program Criteria - failure to comply with this criteria may result in your material not being chipped.
- Material to be chipped must be on the property stacked along a road/driveway or an area allowing the chipping crew to work alongside the pile safely.
- NO root balls, limbs or tree trunks larger than 8" in diameter, construction lumber, bagged material, pine needles, weeds, leaves, pine cones or loose bark, painted or preserved wood, trash, material containing rocks, dirt, metal, nails, screws, fasteners, wire or twine will be accepted.
Participant declares that he/she is the owner of the property or is his/her agent. Participant grants the Mountain Rim Fire Safe Council, its contractors, bidders and agents permission to enter the property only for safety inspections and pile inspections, chipping services and monitoring. Participants acknowledge that the Mountain Rim Fire Safe Council provides this service through contracts with chipping vendors. Participants agree to waive and release the Mountain Rim Fire Safe Council and its employees, Boards, contractors, volunteers, officers, agents, from all liability arising from participation in this program.
The information provided on this form is used solely for purposes of this grant. Participant acknowledges that the information provided is true and accurate to the best of his/her knowledge. Participant's personal contact information will not be shared beyond the scope of this grant and will not be used for advertising.
Upon completion and submittal, this form will serve as your official request for Curbside Chipping Service. You will receive an acknowledgement within 48 hours and an estimated window for when service should occur.
ALL QUESTIONS MUST BE ANSWERED FOR YOUR REQUEST TO BE CONSIDERED.
We must receive your request by 7:00pm PST on the Sunday of the chipping weekend noted in order to include your property in the crew cycle immediately following the target dates. If we do not receive your request in a timely manner, your material may not be addressed until a future chipping date and you may be subject to citation under County ordinances.

CURBSIDE CHIPPING REQUEST FORM. Once completed, click submit; an acknowledgement should pop up if your submission is successful. Your information will be immediately forwarded to MRFSC. MRFSC's volunteer staff will send a confirmation email within 48 hours. NOTE: We have had reports from some people that the form will not accept their entry (generally iPADs and MACs).
